Alain Peyrot and Steven Weber once again staffed the Power Line Systems exhibit at the 2002 CIGRE conference held in Paris in late August. CIGRE is the premier international event for transmission line design professionals. Our participation in this event reflects the international reach of our company with more than 750 clients in over 75 countries.
The main themes of the conference were: availability of lines after severe climatic events and new techniques for the assessment of lines and their components. In connection with these, we demonstrated the latest features of PLS-CADD and TOWER for line assessment and upgrades, including finite element modeling of the wire system to match field tensions which often vary from span to span, in contradiction with the ruling span assumption.
Following the adoption earlier this year of PLS-CADD by Electricité de France (EDF, now RTE), we observed tremendous interest in our products from other European and international electric utilities.
